Marion police investigate matters involving juveniles

Complaints and concerns regarding juveniles occupied Marion police officers' time this past week.

July 26: Theft from a garage in the 200 block of South Roosevelt Street resulted in charges being filed against a juvenile for conspiracy to commit burglary. The property involved was recovered. An officer also responded to Webster Auto Service regarding a report of a fire, but the fire was extinguished before the officer's arrival. A welfare check was conducted at 125 E. Main St. where a person who had ingested an unknown amount of prescription medications was found on the roof. Officers assisted ambulance workers in removing the person.

Tuesday: Evidence was collected regarding an on-going theft investigation. A funeral escort was provided. A dog running at large was picked up.

Wednesday: A battery report was taken by an officer. An officer responded to a dog running at large. Evidence was collected for an ongoing investigation. Officers were at Marion City Building for municipal court and at the courthouse for a Marion County Abuse Team meeting.

Thursday: A non-injury accident involving a motorcycle and car was investigated. An unlocked business door was found. A follow-up investigation was conducted on a battery case. An officer took a report of reckless driving. A child was nearly struck by a vehicle while walking on Main Street near Central Park. The vehicle and occupants were located at a residence in the 300 block of Locust St. Charges were filed against the driver. Another person was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor. Warning citations were issued for illegal parking and speeding.

Friday: A citation was issued for a dog running at large in the 100 block of North Roosevelt Street. Warning citations were issued for speeding and no headlights. An officer picked up a dog running at large. A funeral escort was provided. An investigation was conducted regarding a child neglect complaint.

Saturday: A stranded motorist with a flat tire was assisted. An officer found an unlocked business door. An investigation was conducted regarding a runaway child and neglect of a child. An officer met with a parent regarding problems with a teenager.

Sunday: Officers responded to a domestic argument in the 200 block of Grant Street. Warnings were issued for no taillights and no headlights. A barking-dog complaint was taken. Officers responded to a call of a juvenile locked in a bathroom with a knife. Four unsupervised juveniles were placed in protective custody because of health conditions at the residence.

Officers drove 606 miles and issued two citations and six warnings, and made five arrests.
