Marion-Florence USD 408 will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-31. Students in the district will participate in daily activities.

Monday is red day in honor of Red Ribbon Week; students will wear their favorite team colors Tuesday in order to "team up against drugs." Students will "tie one on against drugs" Wednesday and wear crazy ties. Students are encouraged to "band against drugs" Thursday by wearing headbands.

Other activities throughout the week include a red ribbon scavenger hunt organized by Marion FFA Chapter. A ribbon will be hidden each day and clues will be available in the daily announcements.

At the beginning of the week, each student will be given a red bracelet with the acronym WDDD which stands for "Warriors Don't Do Drugs."

Each day at lunch, a certain number of lunch trays will be distributed with red dots on the bottom. Each student with a red dot will receive a prize.

Marion High School FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter is arranging special events for high school students.

Members of the chapter will plant red tulip bulbs Monday, which will bloom in April during National Alcohol Awareness Month.

The chapter also has been collecting empty gallon jugs to make luminaries. The luminaries will represent 116 alcohol-related deaths in Kansas. The luminaries will be placed on Eisenhower Drive near Warrior Stadium Oct. 27 during the fourth quarter of the final home football game.

FCCLA also has planned f a hallway decorating contest at the high school. Each class will compete to decorate hallways with drug and alcohol awareness information.

Teresa Walters from the regional prevention center will be in the MHS commons area Oct. 25 to talk to parents about drugs, drug and alcohol prevention, and what to do if your child is using drugs or alcohol.

To end Red Ribbon Week, the MHS Key Club will host its annual drug store project for MES sixth grade classes.
