Marion to host 13-year-old District IV Babe Ruth tournament years ago

Marion Baseball Complex is bringing a bunch of 13-year-olds to town next week.

To play baseball that is.

Beginning July 14 and running through the 17th or 18th, the complex will play host to the 13-year-old District IV Babe Ruth tournament.

There will be six teams, with area athletes playing on the Cottonwood Valley All-Stars team.

The team will be coached by Phil Unruh and Casey Case.

The tournament starts July 14 and will have two games each day at 6 and 8:30 p.m. Games will be played on the 18th only if necessary.

The six-team tournament will be two mini-tournaments with the champion of each three-team bracket advancing to state competition in Louisburg.

The champion there will advance to Hastings, Neb., for the Midwest regional tournament. The final stop for the Midwest champion is the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, N.Y.

Case was ready to keep the local team's focus on the district tournament.

"I hope the boys can get fired up with the tournament in town," he said. "There should be some good baseball."
