Marion to host MCAA middle school tournament

Middle school basketball teams from Halstead, Hesston, Hillsboro, Lindsborg, Marion, and Wichita Collegiate will compete for the Mid — Central Activities Association eastern division title Thursday and Saturday in Marion.

The top two seeds in both the boys' and girls' divisions will receive a bye Thursday, as seeds three through six square off for the right to play again on Saturday.

Thursday games for the boys will be held at Marion High School Gymnasium. Marion will take on Lindsborg at 5:30 p.m., followed by Halstead vs. Hillsboro at 6:45.

Marion Elementary School will be the site of girls' competition on Thursday, kicking off with Wichita Collegiate vs. Hillsboro at 5:30. Marion will square off against Halstead in the 6:45 nightcap.

The eight teams remaining after the play-in round will vie for the championship Saturday.

The girls will open play with top-seed Hesston facing the winner of the Marion-Hesston game at MHS Gymnasium. The winner of the Hillsboro-Wichita Collegiate game will take on Lindsborg at MES. Both games tip off at 9 a.m.

Hesston is the number one seed in the boys' bracket as well, and will play the winner of the Hillsboro-Halstead game at MHS Gymnasium. The Marion-Lindsborg winner will tackle Wichita Collegiate at MES. Both games begin at 10:30 a.m.

Championship games will be played at MHS Gymnasium, starting with the girls at noon, followed by the boys at 1:30 p.m.

Third-place contests will be at MES, with the girls' game tipping at noon. The boys' contest is slated for 1:30 p.m.
