Marion USD 408 to raise school lunch prices years ago

Sports reporter

With food costs rising, Marion-Florence USD 408 will see an increase of about $20,000 in their school food budget.

The board of education unanimously approved a 15-cent across the board raise for all school meals except reduced meals.

Milk also was raised to 30 cents per carton for students and teachers.

USD 408 superintendent Lee Leiker said the 15-cent raise only will save the school about $8,500. General funds will be used to cover the rest of the cost.

To put it in perspective, Leiker said if a student ate all their meals at the school for the entire 180-day year, it would cost a parent an additional $30.

"It's unfortunate, but food prices have gotten a lot more expensive," Leiker said. "We have to offset some of it."

The new prices will be as follows:

breakfast

K-6th - $1.25

7-12 - $1.50

K-12 (reduced) - $ .30

Adults - $2.40.

lunch

K-6 - $1.75

7-12 - $2.00

K-12 (reduced) - $ .40

Adults - $2.90.
