Marium Webster

Marium Lee Webster, 93, died Feb. 9, 2007, at Golden Living Center, Marion.

Born Feb. 1, 1914, at El Dorado, he was the son of Jonas and Lida (Lee) Webster.

During his childhood he lived in El Dorado, Humboldt, and Emporia. When he was 18, his father died, and he and his mother moved to Marion.

While dining one day at the Owl Car Café, he met the love of his life, Nora Kline. They were married Oct. 11, 1936, at Marion. She died in 1994.

Their marriage was blessed with four children: Jeannette Matz of Marion, Margo Allen of Las Vegas, Nev., John Webster of McPherson, and Laurence Webster of Wichita. After raising their own children, they opened their loving home to raise grandsons, Barry and Brian Allen.

In his early adult life, Marium worked for a local farmer west of Marion. He later went to work at City Service Station, then took employment o the other side of the street at Pritz Garage.

In 1953, he purchased this business, changing the name to Webster Auto Service. In 1997, he hung up his wrenches; yet in retirement, you still could find him at work every day, helping out where he could.

He was an avid hunter who enjoyed training hunting dogs. He never was short on stories, and liked to share them with everyone who would take a minute to listen. He was a hard-working, kind person who loved a good practical joke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and infant sister, Mildred Webster.

Survivors include his children; five grandchildren including Barry Allen of Marion; and eight great-grandchildren including Audra and Raelene Allen of Marion.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at Valley United Methodist Church, Marion, with the Rev. Phil Smith officiating.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with the Marion Chapter of Quail Unlimited or the American Cancer Society.
