Marvin Hett

Marvin Eugene Hett, 82, of Marion, died May 6, 2006, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Born Nov. 30, 1923, at Canada, he was the son of Herbert and Lena (Robertson) Hett.

He grew up on a farm and attended school north of Canada, then attended 10th grade at Marion High School.

At age 17 he joined the U.S. Navy, where he did several tours of duty aboard ship, most of which were on the USS Ranger. Additionally, he was stationed in San Francisco and Newfoundland. He retired from the Navy in 1970.

During his military career, he was married to Margaret Rempel and had one daughter, Beverly. They later were divorced.

He married Margaret Taylor and the couple had two daughters, Katrina and Eva.

After the death of his second wife, he moved to Marion in 1976, and married Mary Mae Hein.

He worked at Marion Auto Supply for 12 years before retiring in 1988.

He was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church and Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post #6958.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Beverly Hagemeister; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Hagemeister.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Marion; two daughters, Katrina Ash of Hillsboro and Eva Bowman of Long Beach, Calif.; three sisters, Evelyn Gould of Alexandria, Va., Adelyn Oltman of Palm Bay, Fla., and Carol McGranor of Massachusetts; two stepdaughters, Rita Highsmith of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Crystal Arthur of St. Louis, Mo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Eastmoor United Methodist Church, Marion, with the Revs. John Goering and Bob Priest officiating.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery with full military honors provided by a Naval honor guard.

Memorial funds have been established with the church or with Marion Senior Center.
