Mattie Anderson

Madeline "Mattie" Anderson, 75, died Sept. 25, 2004, at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center.

Born Jan. 6, 1929, at Tampa, she was the daughter of Vincent and Maria (Ploch) Mastek.

She graduated from Tampa High School in 1947. After attending Kansas Wesleyan she taught at Merry-Go-Round country school near Tampa.

On May 3, 1948, she married John "Jack" Anderson at Tampa. They lived in Ramona, Wichita, and Valley Center.

She was the assistant manager for the Twin Lakes Shopping Center in Wichita and also operated the Twin Lakes Contract Post Office.

In 1974, they moved to Clay Center where she worked as a paraprofessional for USD 379 for more than 13 years.

She was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, CWO, American Legion Auxiliary, NARFE, and was active with women's golf.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, in 2003, a daughter, Patricia, two brothers, and three sisters.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Sheila Anderson of Marion, Scott and Monica Anderson of Clay Center, and Terry and Dianna Anderson of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Jaclyn Reish of Topeka; two sisters, Margaret Jirak of Tampa and Agnes Bina of Marion; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (today) at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Clay Center, with the Revs. John Jirak and Merlin Kieffer officiating.

Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lewis Cemetery, Ramona.

A Mattie Anderson Memorial Fund has been established.
