MCSEC discusses possibilities of CLASS program

Staff reporter

Board members of Marion County Special Education Cooperative toured the Peabody-Burns Elementary School Jan. 28, to determine if a CLASS program could be relocated from the Florence campus to the school in Peabody.

Following the tour, board members discussed modifications and space alterations that would be required to make the space conducive for the special education program.

A consultation with the board's architect may be necessary to determine such a project and the issue will be discussed at the next board meeting.

The board also suggested members of Florence City Council attend the February meeting to discuss the future use of the Florence buildings.

In other business:

— The board accepted the resignation of board clerk Danette Eis. Special education cooperative director Chris Cezar suggested the board position be separated so the clerk of the board also would be Cezar's secretary and in a salaried position and the business/benefits clerk would be separate from the clerk of the board/secretary position.

Following a 15-minute executive session for the purpose to discuss personnel, the board appointed Rebecca Savage as clerk of the board and Helen Duerksen as business/benefits clerk and deputy treasurer.

The board also approved Eis being paid for unused vacation time at the time of her resignation.

— The board met for more than two hours in executive session to evaluate Cezar's job performance.

In the end, there were no decisions.

Peabody-Burns school board representative Tony Zappone was in attendance at the meeting and during executive sessions because he will replace USD 398 representative Doe Ann Hague on the cooperative board due to her resignation Feb. 1.

— Other classified staff resignations approved by the board were from Pam Riesen, Robin Richmond, Tammy McKinnis, and Thane Schwartz.

Classified staff appointments included Roberta Damberg, Jennifer Roland, Lisa Pinney, and John Mark Phelps.

— The board approved a 50-cent per hour stipend for the OASIS officer referral position and a 25-cent per hour stipend for the back-up position.

— An agreement with Dr. Don Hodson, Marion, was approved regarding the requirements for the Medicaid program.
