Meyer's Malarkey

The first column back in '48 was "Spokes in the Wheel." It didn't last; "Mostly Malarkey" did. Even during retirement years it'll continue, take it or leave it, the cost is the same.

It'll be in first person, short, and plans to be fulfilling, not pithy, argumentative, nor clever. (224 words in this initial effort).

Kids use that word, "fulfilling," to cover many philosophy's of life. They also say, "Get a life." Older folk think fulfilling is the feeling following the pumpkin pie after Thanksgiving dinner.

Last week's editorial "Bread and Butter" was one of the best efforts from this keyboard in months (so I thought). Response was zilch. A young friend was asked, "why?" and her answer was "frankly I couldn't see what Reagan and Bush passing a lectern had to do with either bread or butter."

That's an example of one of the great problems of our modern world, a communications gap. It extends for generations. Those who suffer have already eliminated this noble effort. You geezers who've lasted to the bottom of this column are welcome aboard. It'll continue as long as possible. Norma Hannaford is a great example, at 20 years my elder. In the words of President Bush 43, "let's roll."
