MHS boys' team finishes second in MAYB tourney

Members of Marion High School boys' basketball team finished second this past weekend in a Mid-America Youth Basketball tournament at Marion High School gym.

The 11th- and 12th-grade team finished the tournament with a 3-3 record, defeating teams from Beloit, Claflin, and Courtland/Scandia. They lost to teams from Abilene, Hutchinson, and Manhattan. Manhattan won the tournament.

Team members were Dale Vogel, Adam Heerey, Nick Carlson, Tyson Heidebrecht, Kevin Costello, Russell Ploutz, Jason Hett, and Travis Hett. The team was coached by Doug Heerey.

Other Marion boys who played in the tournament were Kyle Hett, who played in the ninth- and 10th-grade division with a team from Centralia, and Luke Gordon, who played in the eighth-grade division with a team from Hillsboro.

Some Marion High School basketball players participated in an 11th- and 12-grade tournament this past weekend at Marion High School gym finishing in second place. The tournament was a part of the Mid-America Youth Basketball program with boys and girls playing in gyms at the high school, Marion Elementary School, and Florence. Players wait for the ball following an attempt by a Marion player to make a basket. Marion went on to defeat Claflin in the game.
