MHS burglary solved, juveniles arrested

Three juveniles were arrested this past week by Marion Police Department for the April 30 break-in at Marion Middle School and theft of items from Marion High School.

April 24: A follow-up investigation was conducted on a forgery case. A junk vehicle complaint was investigated. Response was given to an activated business alarm; everything was OK. An officer met with a subject regarding a semi parked on South First Street, Marion. Two businesses were found with open doors; the buildings were checked and secured.

Tuesday: A suspicious customer was reported at Casey's General Store, 1020 E. Main Street; the subject was gone when an officer arrived. A report of a customer causing problems at Marion Healthmart Pharmacy at 217 E. Main was the same subject from a previous call; the subject had mental problems and was transported to his residence in Morris County by Marion County Sheriff's Department; the subject's family and removed subject's vehicle from Main Street. A warning was issued to the driver of a semi who was parked on South First Street. A report was made of a non-injury accident at Sunflower and 150th roads; the information was delivered to the sheriff's office.

Wednesday: A dog was reported running at-large in the 400 block of South Third Street but had returned to its yard when an officer arrived; a warning was issued. Suspicious activity was reported in Central Park. A business owner met with an officer regarding a security issue. A junk vehicle complaint was investigated.

Thursday: Officers responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Billings Street; traffic and crowd control was provided. A dog was reported running at-large in the 300 block of South Thorp Street; two dogs were picked up from the area. An erratic driver was reported on 190th Road; the driver was located in the 400 block of North Lincoln Street; a deputy and officer met with the subject and determined everything was OK.

Friday: Officers assisted with storm watch. A junk vehicle letter was delivered. An investigation was conducted regarding a theft at Marion High School. An officer responded to St. Luke Hospital regarding an injured subject; a citation was issued for minor in consumption of alcohol; the subject was transported to Florence by an officer. A warning was issued regarding a dog barking complaint in the 200 block of North Freeborn Street. A deputy received assistance with booking a prisoner.

Saturday: A warning citation was issued for parking on the wrong side of the street. A subject met with an officer regarding a civil issue. An officer picked up meals for the county jail. A deputy received assistance with a traffic stop at Walnut and Orchard streets; three citations were issued for curfew violations.

Sunday: An officer responded to a dog running at-large in the 100 block of East Santa Fe Street.

May 1: An investigation was conducted regarding a break-in at Marion Middle School that resulted in a burglary at Marion High School. A civil standby was provided in the 500 block of Cleveland Street. Two junk vehicle complaints were investigated. Traffic control was provided for a LifeTeam helicopter landing. Hillsboro Police Department received assistance with a chase and a subject fleeing on foot. An obstruction was removed from the street in the 700 block of Main Street. A possible identity theft was investigated.

Tuesday: A warning was issued for failure to yield the right-of-way. An officer met with two juveniles regarding their activities and possible damage to park equipment. An open business door was located; the building was checked and secured.

Wednesday: A follow-up investigation was conducted regarding a theft at MHS; a subject fled from an officer but was later located; two juveniles were arrested in connection with the burglary. A search of a residence was made after the owner consented; stolen school property was located. A lost motorist received assistance.

Thursday: Stolen property was returned to a student and school staff; a third juvenile was arrested in the case. Suspicious activity was reported in the 100 block of South Coble Street; no one was located in the area. An officer met with a subject regarding a junk vehicle issue. Suspicious activity was reported in Central Park.

Friday: A follow-up investigation continued regarding the MHS burglary. An officer responded to an injury accident at 170th and U.S.-77 since a deputy was unavailable. Vehicle identification number inspections were conducted. An open business door was found; the building was checked and secured. A warning was issued for failure to stop at a stop sign.

Saturday: A lost motorist received assistance. A motorist with vehicle problems received assistance in the park. A warning was issued for a defective headlight. A lost motorist received assistance. A lost ID that was found in town was turned in by a resident. An ambulance crew received assistance with a run.

Sunday: A lost motorist received assistance. City personnel was contacted when a problem occurred in Central Park.
