MHS FFA places in district contests

More than 160 students from 17 schools participated this past week at Marion High School in South Central District FFA career development events.

Marion/Florence FFA chapter hosted the annual contest.

The local chapter's A-team placed third overall and the two greenhand teams of freshmen placed first and second overall.

Students competed in three categories — poultry, entomology, and dairy foods.

In the poultry contest, students judged chicken eggs, live chickens, and prepared chicken as consumers find in a grocery store.

Students had to identify 50 insects in the entomology category and take a written test.

Various types of cheese and milk were examined and sampled by contestants in the dairy foods category.
