MHS golf: Golfers tie for first at Herington

Sports reporter

Playing Monday on a familiar course at Council Grove, the Marion High School golf team tied for first in the four-man competition.

Luke Gordon (79), Jake Bredemeier (82), Keith Jones (85), and Lindsay Hett (92), ended up bringing home a second-place medal after losing out on a scorecard tie-breaker.

Gordon finished third, Bredemeier fifth, Jones sixth, Hett 11th, and Olle Gemfors (93), took 13th.

All five earned individual medals.

Head coach Rex Ostmeyer was pleased with his golfers, but always wants them to continue to push themselves.

"We played OK," Ostmeyer said. "I think we could all have scored a little better, especially with the great weather."

He did acknowledge the poor weather in recent days has hurt the team's practice schedule.

"I think once we get in a groove of consistent practice and we can actually get our games fine-tuned a bit, we will be pretty good."

The team will be in Wichita Friday for the Wichita Collegiate Invitational, and travels Tuesday to Bennington for another tournament.
