MHS JV girls wrap up successful season

After a 13-5 season, an Inman tournament championship, and a third place finish at the Marion tournament, Marion High School girls' junior varsity coach Randy Savage couldn't have asked for a better season.

"They are all good girls," Savage said. "And fun to watch play."

The Warriors lost sophomore Amber Richmond with an injury for the past five games, but still managed to complete a successful season. Savage even said if not for a coaching goof in one game, the team would have been 14-4.

The girls used a balanced scoring attack, averaging 55.3 points per game, while giving up only 42.1 per game.

Junior Emalee Versch, who saw varsity playing time as well, led the team with 11.1 points per game. Sophomore Erin Carr was second at 10.1 per game.

Savage said everyone contributed on the team, even a few freshmen. Even when players didn't always light up the scoreboard, they were contributing in other ways.

Savage said junior Adrienne Chamberland did things that didn't always show up in the box score, but were critical in contributing to a victory.

"She always knew what needed to be done," Savage said.

That kind of team effort from everyone led to the successful season, and will only give promise to a varsity squad that lost six seniors this season.

Savage said he enjoyed coaching the girls very much.

"Everyone got better as the year went on," he said.
