MHS JV splits two matches

Marion High School junior varsity volleyball team split two matches last week.

The Warriors defeated Wichita Collegiate 2-0 Sept. 28, with scores of 25-13 and 25-11.

The team served at 95 percent, with sophomore Erin Richmond leading the way with 12 serves.

Marion also fared well hitting the ball, making good on 17 of 19 attacks. Jandee Sharp was 4-4, Erin Richmond 4-5, Kari Tajchman 3-4, Emalee Versch 2-2, Erin Carr 2-2, Erica Geiss 1-1, and Adrienne Chamberland 1-1.

Versch and Sharp led the way serving for the Warriors. Versch was 14-14 and Sharp was 12-12.

Defensivley the Warriors played well, receving 14 of 18 total serves. Tajchman was 5-6 and Sharp 3-3.

The Warriors played in the Washburn quad Monday, not faring as well as the week before.

Marion dropped all three matches to its opponents. MHS lost to Lawrence Free State by scores of 21-25, 25-18, and 20-25.

Manhattan defeated the Warriors 25-17 and 25-23, and Washburn Rural dropped them 25-17 and 25-16.

Marion has been up and down on the season and looks to defeat Hillsboro in its next match.

The Warriors played the rival Trojans in a duel at home last night. Results will be in next week's edition of the paper.
