MHS musicians participate in music festivals at Hillsboro and Ellsworth

Marion High School musicians participated April 1 at the Regional Solo and Ensemble Festival held at Tabor College, Hillsboro.

Students receiving a I rating included Nikki Johnson and Jessica Vogel, flute solo; Bryce Nelson, trombone solo; Michael Brookens, alto sax solo; Joel Zeiner, snare drum solo; and Tedra Eis, Lucy Collett, Michael Brookens, Rachael Davidson, and Luke Bowers, vocal solo. MHS Singers also received a I rating.

Receiving a II rating were Paul Hodson, tuba solo and Riley Ross, Allison Meador, Christine Hett, and Jessica Vogel, vocal solo. Colleen Tajchman received a III rating for vocal solo.

Those receiving a I rating qualified to perform April 29 at the state festival hosted by Southeast of Saline High School. The festival brought together all schools in the 3A classification.

Those receiving a I rating at the state festival included Bryce Nelson, trombone solo; Jessica Vogel, flute solo; Michael Brookens, alto sax solo; Joe Zeiner, snare drum solo; and Tedra Eis, Luke Bowers, Rachel Davidson, Lucy Collett, and Michael Brookens, vocal solo. MHS Singers also received a I. Nikki Johnson, flute solo, received a II rating.

The State KSHSAA Large Group Festival held April 12 and hosted by Ellsworth High School brought together high schools from classes 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A large music ensembles, bands, choirs, and orchestras from the central Kansas region. Marion High School concert choir received a I, II, and II rating from the three adjudicators, for a II rating overall. The concert band received I ratings from all adjudicators for a I rating overall.

This marks the 12th consecutive year the band has accomplished top rating at the state musical festival.
