MHS names students of the month for May

Seniors Clayton Garnica and Katelyn Whitaker of Marion High School were named students of the month.

Clayton, who has a younger sister at MHS named Cassie, has been a member of the basketball and baseball teams all four years at MHS.

Outside of athletics, Clayton is a four-year member of FFA. He has been secretary and treasurer of the group.

Clayton has been involved with the community by participating in school community service day and community service day at Marion Manor.

He also is a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and umpires baseball games during the summer.

Clayton is the son of Laura Legg of Marion.

Katelyn has been active all four years at MHS, participating in many club activities.

She has been a member of the forensics team, choir, FEA, musicals, and plays during her entire tenure at MHS.

She also has participated in Key Club two years, NHS two years, and band one year. Dance has been a big part of her life, as she has been involved with it for 10 years.

Katelyn has been active within the community helping with Children's Summer Theater, filling Community Christmas boxes, and being a part of Marion-Florence REC craft programs.

She has volunteered at the library, and worked at Kingfisher's Inn, The Big Scoop, and Valley United Methodist Church as a nursery attendant.

Katelyn, who has two sisters, Megan and Annie, is the daughter of Neal and Cathy Whitaker.
