MHS scholars take first for second time at Sterling

For the second time this season, the Marion High School varsity Scholars' Bowl team of seniors Michael Brookens and Rachel Davidson, juniors Isaac Guetersloh and Luke Bowers, and sophomore Jessica Vogel posted a perfect 7-0 record Thursday to bring home first place in the Sterling High School Scholars' Bowl.

In preliminary pool play, Marion defeated Sterling 70-50, Halstead 30-20, Inman 70-30, Stafford 50-30, and St. John-Hudson 55-10 before defeating Ellinwood 45-5 in the semi-finals, and Smoky Valley 40-25 in the finals.

Brookens led the scoring with 185 points, followed by Davidson with 80, Guetersloh with 60, Bowers with 30, and Vogel with 5.

The team competed Tuesday at Emporia High School, and will compete Dec. 17 at Smoky Valley High School. Coach Doug Vogel said a freshman/sophomore team also will compete at Smoky Valley.
