Michael Martinez
Michael R. Martinez, 66, of Peabody, died Nov. 2, 2004, at Newton Medical Center, Newton.
Born Sept. 29, 1938, in Florence, he was the son of Juan and Josefina (Modesto) Martinez.
On Oct. 22, 1960, he married Frances Saenz at Florence.
He was retired from the railroad and USD 398.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Phyllis Martinez; four brothers, Marcos, Benito, George, and Stephen Martinez; and a grandchild, Angel Martinez.
Survivors include his wife, Frances of Peabody; two sons, David Martinez of Peabody and Paul Martinez of Newton; four daughters, Charlene Garcia of Hutchinson, Paula Harris, Rebecca Rablin, and Sarah Sears, all of Peabody; three brothers, Joe Martinez of Wichita, Raymond Martinez of Marion, and Guadalupe Martinez of Newton; four sisters, Angie Garcia and Betty Martinez, both of Newton, Louisa Gomez of Chicago, Ill., and Dorothy Pineda of Lyons, Ill.; and 12 grandchildren.
The rosary was recited Friday evening at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton.
Funeral Mass was said at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Family Parish, Florence, with Father Steven Gronert as celebrant.
A memorial fund has been established with the Cancer Center of Kansas, Newton Satellite.
