Misti Richmond, Michael Brookens named students of the month at MHS

Seniors Misti Richmond and Michael Brookens have been named Marion High School September students of the month.

Misti has been involved in numerous activities both in and out of school.

She has participated in Big Brothers/Big Sisters three years, is known as "Jasper the Clown" when she helps for fund-raisers, charity, and school events, and is employed by Marion Manufacturing Incorporated.

At school Misti is the current president for National Honor Society and Key Club, and serves as vice president of student body and Future Educators of America.

Misti participated in Stuco two years, was a state qualifier in forensics, and is current secretary for the school band she has participated in all four years.

Awards Misti has received include National Honor Roll 2003-05, Who's Who Among American High School Students, 2003-05, and Kansas Honor Scholar 2005.

Misti lives with her parents Tim and Robin Richmond at 301 North Cedar, Marion, and attends Central Christian Church in Wichita.

Michael stays busy on the athletic field year round. He has participated in football and power lifting all four years, basketball two years, track three years, and golf one year.

When not on the field Michael fills his time with numerous other activities.

While serving as senior class president, Michael also has been in choir, band, forensics, the spring play, and the fall musical, all four years. He won a Jester Award last fall for best supporting male performer.

He also has participated in jazz band and MHS Singers since his sophomore year, and received a I rating for his solo violin performance his freshman and sophomore years at regionals, and state his freshman year.

On the academic side, Michael has been a member of National Honor Society since his junior year, and participated in the Extended Learning Program and Scholars Bowl all four years.

This past summer Michael co-directed "Kokonut Kapers," a children's musical, with Marion REC.

Michael, who attends Eastmoor United Methodist Church and tries to fit mowing into his busy activities schedule, lives at 201 Meadow Lane, Marion, with his parents Bob and Anita. He has three brothers, Andrew and Justin Brookens, and Nathan Hoffman.
