MMS boys and girls play well against Halstead

Marion Middle School Wildcat girls took two of three from Halstead Middle School Nov. 22.

The seventh graders started the night with a 37-33 victory. The Wildcats jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead behind six points from Kristen Steinborn. Despite a good fourth quarter from Halstead, Marion held on for the victory. Lindsay Hett led Marion with 11 points, and Steinborn added 10. The Wildcats improved to 3-0.

The eighth graders kept it close in the first half, but eventually fell 47-15. Emmali Kelsey was the high scorer for MMS with six points.

The mixed team ended the night with a victory, doubling-up Halstead 26-13.

Marion never trailed, and gave up only four points in the first half. Tiffany Christensen led the way, outscoring Halstead by herself, with 14 points.

The boys' team didn't fare as well, but did leave with one victory.

The seventh graders dominated from start to finish, winning 32-15. Eric Vogel powered the Wildcats with 18 points, as Marion never looked back from a 14-1 first-quarter lead.

The eighth graders kept it close in the first quarter, trailing only 9-6. But Halstead pulled away after that, defeating Marion 35-18. Luke Gordon scored 11 for the Wildcats.

The final game of the night was close, but the mixed Marion team fell 15-13. Marion had a chance to tie with two free throws late in the game, but came up short. Wil Case scored four points, and Brady Hudson added three.

The Wildcats played Sterling Monday, and play Thursday against Wichita Collegiate.
