MMS scholars bowl teams take first at quad

The Marion Middle school scholars' bowl season continued at a strong pace Feb. 21 at the MCAA quad at Lyons.

The seventh grade team of Derek Stuchlik, Landon Leiker, Patrick Hodson, E.J. Obermeyer, and Madison Chamberland took first in the seventh grade division.

They posted a 2-1 record in the preliminary round, won their semifinal, and went on to win two straight rounds from Lindsborg in the best-of-three finals.

Leiker led scoring with 140 points followed closely by Stuchlik with 125 and Hodson with 100. Obermeyer added 40 and Chamberland, 30.

The eighth grade team of Sam Ehrlich, Eric Vogel, Louis Holt, Colton Olsen, and Lee Vogel took first place in the eighth grade division.

They posted a 2-1 record in preliminary pool play and won their semifinal round.

The eighth graders lost the first of the best-of-three matches to Lindsborg but rallied to win the remaining two matches with the last one being won on a tie-breaker question.

Ehrlich and Eric Vogel led the scoring with 180 and 160 points, respectively. Holt had 50 points and Olsen added 10.

The Wildcat scholars will compete Thursday at the Lindsborg Invitational and March 21 at the Goessel Invitational.
