MMS teams play Smoky Valley, Hillsboro

Marion Middle School Wildcats girls' basketball team split six games with rivals Smoky Valley and Hillsboro.

Marion lost two of three Thursday against Smoky Valley. The seventh graders continued their hot streak winning 29-23. Lindsay Hett had eight points. Both the eighth graders and the mixed team were defeated by the Vikings.

Jessica Timm led the eighth graders with four points, and Katie Maag scored seven for the mixed team.

Monday night proved better for the Wildcats as they took two of three from cross-county rival Hillsboro. Sarah Freeby scored eight points in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hillsboro by two, and 16 overall to help the seventh graders win 35-30.

The eighth graders were defeated 26-9, but the mixed team bounced back with a 26-23 victory. Frankie Clarke and Katie Maag both scored eight for the Wildcats.

The boys' team won two out of three Thursday against Smoky Valley. The seventh graders made a statement in the first game of the night, defeating the Vikings 55-5. Isacc Hett scorched the nets for 21 points and Eric Vogel added 15 for the Wildcats.

The eighth graders jumped ahead 10-0 but couldn't hold on, losing 44-24. Luke Gordon had eight points, while Elliot Hett had six, and Mitchell Leppke had five.

The mixed team finished off the night with a 23-21 victory. Wil Case and Parker Ash led Marion with six points each.

The Wildcats play Haven at home Thursday.
