MMS volleyball splits four matches

The regular season ended on a high note Thursday for the Marion Middle School volleyball team.

The Wildcats played at home, splitting four matches with Hesston. The seventh grade team started the night off with a 2-0 victory.

Marion defeated Hesston 25-11 and 25-12. Kayley Heerey led the Wildcats with 10 serves as they finished the season with a 5-2 record.

The eighth grade team struggled in its final match of the year losing both games, 25-13 and 25-5. Despite their 0-7 record coach Shannon Cooper said she was pleased with the improvement and attitude of the team during the season.

In the first mixed match of the night Marion won again in two games. This time Emmali Kelsey led the team with 18 serves in the 25-5 and 25-19 victories. The team also finished with a 5-2 record.

The final match of the night was the second mixed match. The Wildcats fought hard but lost in three games, 27-25, 21-25, and 11-15. Bea Holub had 18 successful serves, and the team finished the year with a 3-4 record.
