MMS volleyball splits with Eagles

Marion Middle School volleyball team matched up against the Ellinwood Eagles Thursday at Marion.

The seventh grade team got Marion off to a good start, defeating the Eagles 25-20 and 25-18, in the opening match. Kristen Steinborn led the Wildcats with 11 successful serves. The victory gave the Wildcats a 2-2 record.

The eighth grade team didn't fare as well, losing to Ellinwood 25-19 and 25-13.

Frankie Clarke was the Wildcats' serving ace with eight successful serves.

In the first mixed game, Marion won 22-25, 25-21, and 25-22. Emma Hett and Anna Laurin both had 15 good serves.

The second mixed game was close, but resulted in a Marion loss. The Wildcats were defeated 25-22 and 26-24. D.J. Gore was the team leader with 14 successful serves.

Coach Shannon Cooper thought each team played with intensity, and is starting to see each one come together more as a team.

The Wildcats play host to Halstead Thursday. Match time is set for 4:30 p.m.
