MMS Wildcats split two games with Sterling

The Marion Middle School Wildcats hosted Sterling Thursday, splitting two games.

The seventh grade team defeated Sterling 26-0, but the eighth graders fell, 12-6.

Seventh-grader Drew Maddox had seven carries for 103 yards behind the blocking of Adam Hett and Brian Fruechting.

Maddox also scored two touchdowns, while Cody Wildin and Nick Klenda added one touchdown each.

The defense was led by Tyler Neil, who recorded nine tackles. Isaac Hett had six tackles, and Eric Vogel added four.

The eighth graders drove deep into Sterling territory late in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get in the end zone for the trying score.

Derek Riggs led the Wildcats with 14 carries for 125 yards. Klenda ran for 64 yards and a touchdown.

Riggs was a monster on defense as well, recording 23 tackles. Gabe Moore was right behind with 20, and Matt Thierolf added 10 tackles.

The Wildcats travel Thursday to Hillsboro.
