More county mapping upgrades planned

Marion County will receive grant funds for additional mapping for communications and emergency management.

Michele Abbott-Becker told Marion County Commission Monday that $32,000 was awarded to the county for the improvements.

One phase of mapping has been completed for the county appraiser's office. Training for personnel will be in January.

The county will pay its portion of the project which is $125,900, and then be reimbursed with grant funds, said Abbott-Becker.

In other department business:

— Generators may be purchased for the courthouse and an alternate shelter like Marion County Lake Hall. The advisory board will review projects funded by grants.

— A moisture sensor will be installed in the basement of the jail, to alert personnel if there is sewer or water in the basement. The cost for the sensor is $400.

— Communication equipment upgrade is near completion. All should be installed by February.

— A day of training sponsored by LifeTeam for county law enforcement, fire, emergency medical technicians, and other emergency personnel will be held Jan. 21 at Hillsboro.

LifeTeam is the air ambulance service provided in the county.

— Abbott-Becker recommended the county commission and other elected officials and department heads attend incident command training in Alabama. Transportation and training is free.

— The commission instructed Abbott-Becker to seek bids for a new copier at the dispatch office. The current copier is five years old.

— Statistics of emergency calls were released. So far in December, there have been 1,419 incoming and outgoing calls with 352 being from cell phones.

In November, there were 3,551 total calls, and 685 from cell phones.
