More projects planned for park improvement fund

Central Park Improvement Committee is close to meeting their initial goal of $40,000 for new playground equipment at Central Park.

A soup and pie supper and bake sale, with the help of Thrivent and Our Savior Lutheran Church, will begin at 5 p.m. Nov. 14 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 320 S. Cedar, Marion. Chicken noodle and chili soups with homemade pies will be served.

The committee is seeking donated items to assist with the meal. They include four gallons of chili beans, five boxes of crackers or individually wrapped packages, a three-pound tub of oleo, 12 one-pound bags of baby carrots, six stalks of celery (washed and cut up), two gallons of dill pickle spears, a large jar of creamer, a tall can of lemonade mix, a large jar of tea or tea bags, 400 small foam plates, 350 heavy duty plastic spoons and forks, 25 pies of any variety (coolers are available), and bake sale items.

Winners of the drawing for the quilt and afghan will be announced Nov. 25 during the downtown Christmas parade.

Another event, an auction scheduled for Nov. 26, has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts with the school.

The auction is being rescheduled for sometime in January or February.

"Since the auction has been postponed, we are going to have to push hard to get the money we need by the end of the month," said Angela Lange, one of the project committee members.
