MPD assists capturing injured owl

Marion Police Officers assisted Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Saturday with capturing an injured owl, apparently struck by a vehicle, in the area of South Third Street. The bird was transported to a rehabilitation facility.

Sept. 11: A complaint was made of a dog running at-large in the 200 block of North Roosevelt Street. The dog was picked up and taken to Animal Health Center of Marion County. A subject met with an officer regarding a harassment complaint. Hazardous trash was found on Main Street which resulted in an officer meeting with an individual and collecting the items. Response was given to a barking dog complaint.

Sept. 12: Attempts were made to catch a dog running at-large in the 100 block of North Roosevelt Street. A lost motorist received assistance. Contact was made with an individual regarding a 911 hang-up; everything was OK.

Sept. 13: An officer responded to a 911 hang-up; everything was OK. A follow-up interview was conducted for an outside agency. Traffic control was provided for a situation in the 200 block of South Fourth Street.

Thursday: Follow-up interviews were conducted regarding a case being worked with the state. A citation was issued for exhibition of speed or acceleration. Assistance was provided to street line painting personnel regarding locating owners of vehicles that needed to be moved. Officers attended a meeting at the police department.

Friday: Vehicle identification number inspections were provided. Officers conducted follow-up interviews for a case. Assistance was provided to a Marion County Deputy in booking multiple people in Marion County Jail.

Saturday: Officers provided extra patrol because of a power outage and were on storm watch. An officer provided security and traffic control at Central Park for Art in the Park. A hit-and-run accident at Lawrence and Locust streets was investigated. A follow-up was conducted on a case. Assistance was provided to an EMS crew on a run. A motorist with vehicle problems received assistance. An officer met with a business owner regarding a parking complaint and dealt with a parking situation with vehicles parked around ambulance building. A door-to-door salesman complaint was checked and the salesman did not have a permit. Assistance was provided to a city trash crew in picking up refuse at the park. A warning was issued for failure to have headlights on when required.

Sunday: A welfare check was conducted in the 200 block of North Freeborn Street; everything was OK. A dog bite was reported at Denver and Roosevelt streets; the animal was taken to the veterinary for quarantine. An officer responded to the 400 block of Moore Street after the report of a domestic argument. A reckless driving complaint was investigated in the area of Hilltop Manor. An open business door was discovered; the business was checked and door locked. A warning was issued for exhibition of speed or acceleration. A subject met with an officer regarding a civil matter.

Officers drove 942 miles and issued one citation and two warning citations.
