New building planned at rock shop

The expiration of a conditional use permit took care of itself when the property owner removed an older trailer house from his property.
Neil Hett, 1520 120th Road, was given until the end of October to remove a trailer house that he had been using as an office for his landscaping business.
At a previous Marion County Commission meeting, a letter was going to be sent to give him a deadline to have it removed or return to the commission to present reasons for an extension. Before the letter was sent, the trailer was removed and a building permit issued for a permanent building.
Bobbi Strait, county zoning administrator, reported Nov. 13 to the commission that Hett was planning to construct a 24-foot-by-32-foot office building with an estimated completion date of March 1.
In other business:
— County economic development director Teresa Huffman reported she had been working with rural businesses for signs. She also said gravel needed to be provided to some of those businesses in an effort to give a better access for customers.
— Information from 45 businesses in Marion County is available on the county web site. A business survey was distributed to businesses by Huffman and the information contains those results.
— The commission approved a conditional use permit for a cell tower south of Goessel. Marion County Planning Commission had reviewed the application and recommended it be approved.
— Commissioners want to have tuck and point work completed on the county health department building on West Main Street, Marion. A bid of $24,097 was obtained in July. The company will be contacted regarding the validity of the four-month proposal.
— Holub requested and received a five-minute executive session to discuss personnel. The meeting reconvened with no decisions.

The commission did not meet this week because commissioners attended the Kansas Association of Counties convention.
The next commission meeting is at 9 a.m. Monday at the courthouse.
