New coaches hired at Centre High School

Head football and boys' basketball coaches were hired May 23 at a special meeting of the Centre USD board of education.

After a 20-minute executive session, the board voted in open session to employ CHS alumnus Kelly Steiner as 7-12 English instructor for the 2006-07 school year. He also will be the head high school football coach and yearbook sponsor.

Cody Schafer was employed as head high school boys' basketball coach after the board accepted his resignation as assistant coach and elementary classroom aide.

The board also accepted the resignation of Seth Bishop as 7-12 math instructor.

Phyllis Burns was employed as head teacher at the K-4 school site, and Cindy Riedel was assigned as National Honor Society sponsor.

Superintendent Bob Kiblinger was directed to advertise for an additional first grade instructor for the 2006-07 year.

In other actions, the board voted to pay Bud Peterson $900 for unused sick leave due to the extra service he has provided to the district during the past 24 years.

They also approved a revised asbestos removal proposal from Associated Insulation, Inc., totaling $7,214, for removal of asbestos-containing materials within the science lab remodeling area.

Time was spent in executive session with the superintendent to discuss certified staff negotiations.
