New lake rules now in effect

Fees no longer required for fishing at county lake

New rules and regulations now are in effect at Marion County Park & Lake.

At a previous Marion County Commission meeting, the commission approved the county's participation with a Kansas Wildlife & Parks program that eliminated the collection of separate county fees for fishing and fishing-related activities at the lake.

The changes approved Monday were implemented Tuesday.

Fishermen holding a state fishing license now can fish at the county lake at no additional cost. Fees also have been waived for use of the heated fishing dock and boats used for fishing.

Lake director Dale Snelling and county attorney Susan Robson updated the regulations.

In other business:

— Sales taxes for November, collected in December, and distributed in January had declined from the same time period in 2004.

The November figure was $40,152. The total amount collected during 2004 remained a positive increase of $68,000.

— The commission approved $757,616 in payroll and accounts payable for January.

County clerk Carol Maggard reported some annual payments were paid including $42,000 for property and vehicle insurance, and $87,886 for workers' compensation insurance.

— A discussion of Sunday packaged beer sales at Monday's commission meeting has been postponed until more information can be received from the county attorney.

— Emergency medical services director Daryl Thiesen provided information regarding necessary repairs on the Hillsboro ambulance.

Thiesen reported the unit was functioning but needed to be repaired. Bids will be obtained and submitted at Monday's meeting.

An emergency medical technician class that Thiesen is teaching has been moved to Goessel because the students are from that area.

— The commission approved a $100 membership to the Marion Lake Association.

The next commission meeting is at 9 a.m. Monday in the courthouse.
