New lighting to enhance courthouse

Staff reporter

Marion County Commission decided Monday that the lighting around the courthouse should be functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Marion County Clerk Carol Maggard presented cost estimates for lighting on the west side of the building and north steps. Commission chairman Randy Dallke asked if the lighting would be similar to that of the Chase County courthouse. Maggard said it would light part of the building but probably not to the extent of Chase County.

She then suggested the commission talk with Gib Suderman of Elcon Service Inc. of Hillsboro before making any decisions.

Flood lights on decorative posts with timers were discussed which would be functional and flattering to the building.

Work can begin after Monday when documents are signed at the next commission meeting and must be substantially completed by Dec. 15.

— A conditional use permit was approved for Richard Bridgewater at 654 100th Road for a salvage operation.
