Nikki Stenzel represents CHS at state forensics championship

The Centre High School forensics team has completed the 2007 season. They attended six regular season meets. In addition, their school hosted an invitational meet on April 16.

Junior Nikki Stenzel qualified to compete May 5 in interpretation of poetry at the 1A state championship meet in Salina. She placed third Feb. 10 at Council Grove, first Feb. 17 at Berean Academy, and second March 10 at Herington.

According to instructor Jennifer Montgomery, state championships are based on elimination, with the top six in each category receiving recognition. Nikki did not reach the finals but performed well, Montgomery said.

Ida Saadon in interpretation of prose and the team of Elya Medikhanova and Saadon in improvised duet acting received Division I ratings at the 1A state festival, also May 5 in Salina.

Saadon earned fourth place at the Council Grove meet and the duet earned fourth place at Herington to qualify for festival. Both are juniors.

Montgomery was pleased with the season.

"It's been several years since anyone on our team has qualified for state championship participation, and I feel that more team members are ready to compete," she said.

She's looking forward to even better results next year because there are nine juniors on the team. Other juniors besides those already mentioned are Tye Remy, Julie Rziha, Justine Jennings, Kholene Crawford, Sarah Fasbender, and Amy Hajek.

Teaira Turner is the only senior on the team. Freshman members are Dallas Rosenow and Sammi Seifert.
