Nine-year-olds take second at state
Just missing out on a state championship, the Cottonwood Valley League nine-year-old All-Stars fell 9-7 Tuesday in a game against Ottawa.
The loss ended the season for CVL, but gave the team a second place finish in the 2005 Kansas Babe Ruth League tournament.
Unlike older age groups, the winner of the state tournament does not go on to play in a regional tournament.
The team reached the state tournament by winning all three games at the district tournament July 14-17 at Marion.
Three more victories in the state tournament at Wellington matched the team up up against Ottawa in the championship round.
Look for pictures of the team's quest for a championship in next week's paper.
