No ballot? Call the county clerk s office

Marion County residents who are registered to vote but have not received a ballot for a special mail-in referendum election, should contact the county clerk's office.

Numerous ballots have been returned to the clerk's office after being mailed Friday because state statute does not allow ballots to be forwarded to a new address.

However, there are some instances when voters are allowed to cast a ballot.

"The best thing is to contact the clerk's office and find out for sure," said county clerk Carol Maggard.

Voters also are reminded to sign the return envelopes. Envelopes not signed cannot be verified and won't be counted, said Maggard.

Call (620) 382-2185 or go to the county courthouse in Marion for more information.

Ballots ask voters if they want a destination resort casino in Marion County.

Ballots will be counted Dec. 22.

Harvey and Sumner counties also are holding similar elections with votes tallied Dec. 16 in Harvey County and Dec. 20 in Sumner County.

The non-binding referendums will give casino developers an idea of which counties are open to the possibility of a multimillion dollar development.
