No severe weather, plenty of rain

Staff reporter

The weather this spring has been anything but predictable. Snow in April has made way for extreme storms in May.

May flowers were about washed away this past weekend with impressive rainfall totals reported around the county.

Although Marion County did not have the wrath of a two-mile-wide tornado as in Kiowa County, residents were plummeted with sheets of rain and strong winds.

From Friday evening until Sunday evening, some parts of Marion County had more than five inches of rain. Fields were flooded, river banks swollen, and some roads were under water.

Fortunately, there were no reported damages to properties or traffic incidents as a result of the weather.

Sunday afternoon proved to be the most impressive with torrential rains filling yards and ditches. Residents reported the rain as falling "sideways" which was not caused by wind but just the heavy rain. More than two inches of rain fell from noon Saturday until mid-afternoon Sunday. A spectacular thunder and lightning show was performed by Mother Nature Sunday night which resulted in more impressive rainfall totals.

Residents finally saw at least part of the sun Monday afternoon and Tuesday but rain was in the forecast through Friday.
