Non-refundable fee will be collected from new customers
Marion City Council approved an ordinance Monday that would require new utility customers to pay a non-refundable $125 connection fee.
If the customer can provide a letter of credit for a minimum of 12 months of a good pay history with other utility companies, the fee would be waived.
When customers are disconnected for failure to pay, a $50 reconnect fee will be charged when reconnection is made during regular business hours; $75 will be charged for after hours.
Previously the city charged $150 deposit which was refunded, with interest, following 12 months of a good payment history.
— The council approved changing the city's web site host from Infinitec for a minimal charge of $771 per year to Florence Web at a cost of $250 per year.
Florence Web owner Rick Burcky would maintain the site and change information as requested. Currently city employees make updates.
— A record retention policy and a contract with Absolute Shred of Kansas, Inc., Hillsboro, were approved for destroying old city records. City clerk Angela Lange said records of historical significance will not be shredded. The estimated cost will be between $200 and $300.
— A housing incentive through the Bucks for Building program was approved for Chad and Becky Gormley of Hillsboro who plan to construct a new house at 807 S. Roosevelt, Marion.
The next regular council meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the city building.
