Official election results announced

Some city officials were elected as write-in candidates in the April 5 general election.

No residents filed for candidacy which prompted write-ins for various positions.

The following official results for city and school positions includes provisional ballots.

Officials elected by write-ins are indicated with "WI." Also indicated with each position are the total numbers of write-in votes.

Burns: Mayor Mary Glenn (incumbent) 37, write-in candidates10. Treasurer Tom Grimwood (WI) 2. Councilmen (five positions) Fritzie Hatfield (I) 48, Mark Brunhoeber (I) 42, Mark L. Steward (I) 41, Judith A. Steward 35, and Elmer L. Welch 33, write-ins 23.

Hillsboro voters overwhelmingly supported a retail sales tax increase in Tuesday's primary election, 651 in favor and 264 opposed.

Revenue from the sales tax will be used for public recreational facilities that could include an aquatic center.

The constitutional amendment marriage question in Marion County received a resounding 3,133 votes in favor of recognizing marriages only between one man and one woman and 667 against. Statewide the question passed 414,106 yes to 178,018 no.

Electors will take their respective positions at the next city or school district meeting.
