LETTERS:   Open letter to county commission years ago

To the Editor:

An open letter to Commissioners Dallke, Hein, and Holub:

I cannot be present for the Monday afternoon session, therefore, the letter.

On behalf of myself as a Marion County taxpayer and as chairman of the Marion VFW political action committee (PAC), of the auxiliary to Post 6958, I say, please give this more thought. Separate discussion, and decision, into two separate projects.

The taxpayers are upset! Why?

The lake hall was built to be a taxpayers' building for community activities, with taxpayers' money. It is your job, as commissioners, to maintain the building, so it is usable.

If it needs better insulation, or repairs, do it! It will be much cheaper than "building a new one, if needed," as one of you is quoted by the newspaper.

Don't change the purpose of the building without a vote by the taxpayers!

Dividing the building between the public and private, for a 10-year lease — do you realize what squabbling that would be?

The cabin project is private enterprise, and altogether different arguments.

You compare the county lake hall (apple), with a "city spec building," (peach), and a federal Corps project (lemon), as fruit. But each is distinct, built for a specific purpose.
