Otis Griggs

Otis Ray Griggs, 86, of Hutchinson, died Dec. 3, 2007, at Good Samaritan Village, Winfield.

Born Oct. 17, 1921, at Brookville, he was the son of Otis and Melvena (Lindquist) Griggs.

He was a 1939 graduate of Marion High School and received a bachelor's degree in animal husbandry from Kansas State University and a master's degree in range management from Oklahoma State University.

He was an agricultural extension agent in Stevens, Osborne, Finney, and Reno counties and an animal husbandry specialist for the USDA, serving in Nigeria.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

On Sept. 2, 1944, he married Roselma Fox.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Deines; and a brother, Keith Griggs.

Survivors include his wife, Roselma of Hutchinson; son, Gail Griggs of Independence, Mo.; three daughters, Cynthia Shotts of McPherson, Susan Rush of Winfield, and Debra Deines of Wichita; two brothers, Bill Griggs of Los Angeles, Calif., and Laurence Griggs of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday morning at Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Pat Ault-Duell officiating. Burial was in Grant Township Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with the church or Kansas 4-H Foundation.
