Parade, carnival will highlight Labor Day celebration
This year's annual Florence Labor Day Celebration will feature a carnival during the weekend with the highlight being a traditional parade on Monday.
A carnival will be available during the three-day celebration, downtown Florence.
Free hamburgers will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday to the first 500 people. The carnival will open at 6 p.m.
A $3 button will be required for admission to most events. A button drawing will be held immediately following the parade on Monday for a $132 prize. Button-holders must be present at the parade to win.
On Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. citywide garage sales will be held. Maps are available from local businesses and at the Labor Day information booth at Fifth and Main.
A poker run will begin at 1 p.m. from Junction Saloon. The first hand costs $15 with additional hands available for $5 each.
Kids' ranch rodeo and mutton-bustin' will be at 3 p.m. at the football field on Eighth Street. Children ages four and older ride free but a button is required.
The carnival reopens at 6 p.m. Saturday followed by a street dance from 8 to 12 p.m.
Sunday will be Family Fun Night when the carnival opens at 5 p.m. A $15 wristband will let participants ride all evening.
At 6:30 p.m. Cary and Alicia Mock will present a gospel concert in the downtown district.
Monday will begin with a car show at 10 a.m. at the football field.
A parade will begin at 11 a.m. downtown with the theme of "Together We're Making a Difference."
