Paul D. Brunner

Paul D. Brunner, 25, of Lincoln, Neb., died Sept. 20. 2006, of a sudden cardiac event.

He was born Dec. 21, 1980, in Omaha, Neb. At the age of three weeks he was taken into the home of the Rev. Donald and Marlene Brunner. His adoption was finalized in May 1980.

He was raised in Scribner, Neb., and graduated from Scribner-Snyder High School in 1999.

Brunner attended Southeast Community College, transferring to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he received a degree in criminal justice. He was in his final year in the university's College of Law, was vice president of the Black Law Students Association, and a member of the Student Bar Association.

Brunner studied at Cambridge University in England the summer of 2005 and worked this past summer at Volunteer Legal Services, Chicago, which provided free legal aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina at New Orleans.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westfield, Wis., the last parish served by his father.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Donald Brunner and his grandparents, Ernest Meyer, Jacob Brunner, and Lillian Brunner.

Survivors include his mother, Marlene Brunner, Fremont, Neb.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dawn and Jeff Larson, Yankton, S.D., Lori and David Buck, Omaha; and Tami and Mike Bolden, Fremont; two brothers, Joel Brunner, Mayer, Minn., and Mark Brunner, Fremont; his grandmother, Alma Meyer, and uncle, Dennis Meyer, Tampa; three nieces, and two nephews.

Memorial services were held Sept. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fremont, with interment in Lewis Cemetery, Ramona, Sept. 26.

A memorial has been established with the University of Nebraska Foundation, Paul D. Brunner Memorial Scholarship Fund, PO Box 82555, Lincoln, NE 68501-2555. The endowed scholarship will benefit students at the law college.
