Paul William Svitak

Inurnment services were held at 1 p.m. April 10 at St. John Nep. Cemetery, Pilsen, for Paul William Svitak, with Rev. Mark Wesely officiating.

He was born Oct. 3, 1922, in Pilsen to John J. and Victoria (Franta) Svitak and died Aug. 28, 2003, in Burbank, Calif.

He attended grade school and two years of high school in Pilsen, his junior and senior years in Lincolnville High school, graduating with the class of 1940.

He had a childhood love of airplanes and attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Okla., after graduation. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1940.

He left for overseas duty in October 1942, and completed 18 months with the 13th AAF, serving as a flight chief in a bomb squadron. In November 1948, he was honorably discharged as master sergeant.

He made his home in Santa Monica, Calif., where he worked at the airport servicing planes.

He was married to Dicie Welch.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Steinback and Paula Bradley; a stepdaughter Peggy Singlehurst; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, all of California; a sister, Sylvia Bezdek, and brother, George Svitak, both of Pilsen.

Lenore Zimmerman

Lenore Zimmerman, 85, died April 4, 2005, at her home in Commerce, Texas.

Born June 17, 1919, at Marion, she was the daughter of Fred and Lydia (Vogel) Stenzel.

She attended Kreutziger Elementary School District No. 97 and Marion High School, graduating in 1936.

She graduated from Wichita Business College, then attended Kansas State Teachers College, graduating from there in 1940 with degrees in English and Latin.

She was a teacher at Washington, then returned to Emporia to marry John R. Zimmerman.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Commerce, Texas, where she taught Sunday school for 23 years.

Survivors include her husband, John of Commerce, Texas; a son, Preston Zimmerman of Wylie, Texas; two daughters, Kathryn Zimmerman and Tamara Wilburn of Frisco, Texas; a sister, Helen Chill of Marion; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Zeiner Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Helm officiating.

Casket bearers were Matt Wilburn, Greg Stenzel, Al Abbott, Marvin Meisinger, Gary Evans, and J.C. Ehrlich.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or First Baptist Church of Commerce Building Fund.
