PBHS Warriors take second at home tourney

Peabody-Burns High School was swarming with activity Saturday with six teams participating in the PBHS Invitational volleyball tournament.

The Lady Warriors took second place behind champion Caldwell. Other team participating were Hartford, Central Burden, Burlingame, and Burrton.

PBHS will spend the next week in practice to prepare for the home league-opener Tuesday.

The Lady Warriors started the day matched-up with Caldwell. They suffered defeats in two game, 25-13 and 25-23.

Jessica Gillet set the tempo with six kills in the match. Tabitha O'Neal and Julie Wedel each had two, while Becki Morris had five digs, and Bayleigh Clark and Gillet each had three.

PBHS turned things around in match two by defeating Central Burden in three games, 15-25, 25-23, and 25-15.

Wedel found a rhythm and put down 12 kills in the match. Morris added seven and Danielle Savage and Gillet chipped in each with six.

Clark recorded 18 digs, while Morris had 16 and Gillet added 12 digs and three aces.

O'Neal had one ace and Clark recorded 21 assists from the setter position.

The Lady Warriors continued to play well and took the third match against Hartford, 25-14 and 25-22.

Gillet led the team again with five kills and O'Neal and Wedel had each had three.

O'Neal also put up five aces with Gillet and Clark each adding two.

Alex Holm-McDowell and Morris each recorded four digs, and Wedel and Gillet added three.

The fourth match went three games, and again PBHS came out on top with a 25-12, 18-25, 25-22 victory against Burrton.

Morris had eight kills, Savage six, and Clark, Gillet, O'Neal, and Wedel all had three.

Gillet recorded eight aces, Morris six, and Clarissa Terronez had five.

Morris also chipped in with 14 digs.

The Lady Warriors cruised through the final match and defeated Burlingame 25-13 and 25-15.

Morris had five kills and Savage four.

Gillett and Morris each had three aces while Terronez had two.

Tournament stats

Clark - 60 assists, three aces, 37 digs.

Morris - 23 kills, nine aces, 46 digs, six blocks.

Wedel - 23 kills, 18 digs, three blocks.

Savage - 17 kills, two blocks.

Gillet - 22 kills, 16 aces, 24 digs.

O'Neal - 11 kills, nine aces.

Terronez - eight aces.

Holm-McDowell - two aces, 17 digs.
