Peggy Wood

Peggy Wood, 75, died Sept. 4, 2004, at Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan.

Mary Margaret Noble was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Rosalia, the daughter of Bert and Nellie (Smith) Noble.

She graduated from Kansas State University in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in home economics and extension and received a master's degree in secondary counseling from Emporia State University in 1972.

On Aug. 21, 1949, she married Howard C. Wood in El Dorado. He died in 2001.

The couple lived on a farm near Clements for 45 years. They organized two 4-H clubs and were leaders of the Clements club for more than 35 years.

She taught economics for seven years at Marion Junior High School in Florence and coached girls' basketball. She organized a Future Homemakers of America club and later taught special education students in Chase County Middle School at Strong City. She also worked three years for the Charles Rayl Law Office and three years for Home Health Services of Chase County in Cottonwood Falls.

She served on the boards of the local YWCA, Chase County Extension and AAUW, and was an elder/deacon at Cottonwood Falls First United Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir.

In later years she served on many committees at Meadowlark Hills, Manhattan.

Survivors include her daughters, Dr. Kathy Grandison of Colrain, Mass., Margie Dyck of Overland Park, Jeanne Mann of Lawrence, and Mary Crane of Ackley, Iowa; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the community room of Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community, Manhattan, with the Rev. Tom Robson officiating.

She donated her body to KU Medical School, Kansas City.

A memorial fund has been established with Camp Wood YMCA and Good Samaritan Fund of Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.
