Plans revealed for Chingawassa Days festival

Chingawassa Days festival will have a combination of old and new events.

The festival will be held June 2-4 at Central Park, Marion.

This year's Saturday night headliner is the classic rock group The Guess Who.

Festival-goers can purchase a button for $20, beginning April 15, that will allow them a full weekend of activities.

A day pass for $5 will be available for events from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on June 3.

Extreme Rhino Challenge will return for a second year. Preliminary matches of the popular two-person team competition will be June 1, with the finals the following night.

On June 2, the Robinson family will return with chain saw art, and a climbing wall, barbecue, and ice cream social will be provided.

A new event, Chingawassa Idol, will be held where contestants will sing and be judged.

Extreme Rhino Challenge finals will follow with the band Second Nature wrapping up the first night.

Marion Kiwanis Club will serve pancakes Saturday morning, with numerous participatory activities planned that include a motorcycle run, Texas Hold'em tournament, horseshoe pitching tournament, and run.

A bed race on Main Street, a duck race in Luta Creek, and a dance recital will fill Saturday morning.

During the day, amusements will be available.

A rock, paper, scissors tournament will be held for the first time this year.

Popular events like the pedal tractor pull, dodge ball, and bingo will return.

The Guess Who will take the stage the evening of June 3. A church service is planned for Sunday.

Nelson injured

during practice

Marion High School athlete Casey Nelson was injured Monday in a pole vault accident during track practice at Warrior Stadium.

He was taken by ambulance to St. Luke Hospital and flown by LifeTeam to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He suffered a severe head injury and his condition was unknown at press time.

Nelson is a senior at MHS and the son of Steve and Diane Sams of Marion.
