Play nice, be fair

They say there are two sides to every pancake and two sides to every argument. In the case of the truck parking issue and the Jex Addition residents, there seems to be five sides of the issue that we can determine.

There are the obvious players — the city and the railroad. Then there is Darryl Brewer, who has a definite opinion and a stake in what happens down there — after all it is his property and livelihood.

There are the Jex Addition residents. They are concerned about the safety of their neighborhood.

Last but not least, there are the truck drivers and their families. They also have a stake in the outcome of this situation.

All of these groups have definite opinions about what should happen. However, nothing — not one single solution — will make everyone happy.

So, in light of that, we urge everyone involved to take a deep breath, count to 10, and be reasonable. We don't know what the solution is, but compromise is the only answer.

There's nothing productive about pointing fingers and blaming other parties involved. It certainly isn't the Jex Addition residents' fault that they want a safe neighborhood, just as it isn't the fault of the truck drivers that they need somewhere to park their rigs.

It serves no purpose to call the drivers' companies and complain. The only thing this may accomplish is getting them in trouble with their employers and possibly taking away their livelihoods.

All parties involved should remember that their actions are far-reaching. Let's hope this issue is resolved soon — once and for all. In the meantime, play nice. Be fair. Don't make the situation worse than it already is.
