Powerlifting competition another success

Hardey wins her class; Hager, Regnier take second

Marion High School played host Saturday to the 3A State Powerlifting Competition for the eighth year in a row.

The boys' team took fifth place out of 25 teams.

Randy Regnier (114 pounds) and Austin Hager (198 pounds) took sixth place in their classes.

Regnier benched pressed 170 pounds, cleaned 135, and recorded 225 pounds in the squat event for a total of 530 pounds.

His press of 170 pounds broke a state record, but Aaron Porter of Sedgwick would break his record later in the competition with a press of 200.

Hager lifted a total of 970 pounds. He cleaned 275 pounds, benched 315, and squatted 380.

Mark Kukuk and Sheldon Boone earned their teams points with third-place finishes.

Kukuk lifted a total of 815 pounds in the 165-pound class, and Boone 835 pounds in the 172-pound class.

His clean of 280 pounds was second best in his weight class.

Mitchell Leppke finished right behind Kukuk in the 165-pound class with a total weight of 810 pounds.

Mitch Cady (123 pounds) and Louis Holt (132 pounds) were the final placers for the boys' team.

They both took sixth with Cady totaling 495 pounds and Holt 585.

MHS had just three girls competing with Kimber Hardey winning her class and Kalaya Jackson taking third.

Hardey's 540 pounds were 50 pounds better than Morgan Thomas of Conway Springs.

The senior had the highest squat (256 pounds) and best clean (150) in her class.

As a team the Warrior girls were fifth out of 17.
